Everyone carried crosses this week
Across the sidewalk
On the street
Some were small
Not stout enough to bear
The weight of a woman
Or a man and all our sins.
It is hard to find a six by six at Lowes
These days.
I saw a cross on wheels
Toted by a girl
Wearing towels for shoulder pads.
They do this in remembrance
I know
But the sidewalk outside the
Student Union
is far from Golgotha
And wheels make the penance
Too easy.
