On the Art of Translation No. 1

Taking a tongue to dance
Upon a string of animated pearls
Hand-knotted on a waxed chord
By a distant hand and mouth,
Is a tricky job

Once the beads are broken
Restrung by a new hand
Rolled between my fingers
Taking on my oils and scent
Is it any more
The same necklace?
